I'm probably the only person on the planet who doesn't like Kiss Alive. Well, no, I shouldn't say I don't like, I just don't cream myself over it the way others do. It's a great "live" album, for the most part, I prefer the studio versions of the songs. I definitely prefer the studio version of She, because I could never get with the way they drop into the guitar riff that leads into Ace's cadenza. On the other hand, I think that little fanfare flourish before Cold Gin was the first place I heard that thing where you flip the pickup switch back and forth between a pickup that's turned on and one that's turned off, giving that sort stuttering sound. I know Ace wasn't the first to do that I think Townshend might have been, on Anyway Anyhow Anywherebut he was the first I heard do it. And I always loved that little back and forth thing Paul and Peter do during the intro to Cold Gin when I heard it as a kid, whenever Paul goes "Alright", every kiss album ranked always sounded to me like he was getting mad at Peter for interrupting his spiel.

It's got some good songs, but it also has one or two weaker ones, like Baby Driver and Mr. Speed actually, I like Mr. Speed, I just can't figure out why "all the ladies" call him Mr. And See You In My Dreams demonstrates how an arrangement can make or break a song in this case, it breaks it.
But in general, I enjoy listening to it. Love Gun is totally bad ass. Alive II, I can see why a lot of people don't like this.
The "live" portions aren't as good as Alive! Hence, it doesn't have the flow of an actual live set. But those new studio songs on side four, I think are noteworthy. I haven't heard Paul or Peter's solo records in so long, I don't even remember what they sound like. But I love Ace's and Gene's. Always have.
28. Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions (1997)
Ace's is what you want an Ace Frehley solo record to sound like, ie a bunch of really cool hard rock songs. Gene's is an interestingly eclectic array of tunes.
